Welcome to Colony Flow Level 149. This level presents a colorful pixel art picture of a slice of strawberry cake. I play every single level myself to figure out the exact sequence of moves you need. In this guide I will walk you through my exact strategy to clear the board without jamming your tray. Your goal is to guide your colony to eat every tile by matching the colored blocks in your tray to the food on the screen. Let me show you how to conquer this cake.

What You Are Working With

The pixel art on this board is very distinct. You have a central image of a cake slice resting on a brown background. The entire picture is surrounded by a thick green border. The cake itself has a dark purple outline. Inside the cake you will find a bottom yellow layer and a thick pink layer. Above the pink layer sits a white frosting layer. The very top of the cake and the decorative strawberry are made of red tiles.

Your tray at the bottom holds all the numbered blocks you need to clear these tiles. You will see green blocks for the border and brown blocks for the background. You also have yellow blocks, dark purple blocks, pink blocks, white blocks, and red blocks. The numbers on these blocks tell you exactly how many ants will spawn to eat the matching colored tiles. The bottom edge of the cake and the bottom green border are completely exposed to the nest hole from the very beginning.

What It Takes to Clear Level 149 Board

Winning this level requires you to dismantle the picture from the bottom to the top. You have to clear the green border and the brown background while simultaneously eating into the layers of the cake. The absolute most critical rule to remember is how the five waiting slots work. If you pull five blocks into the active waiting slots and none of the ants have an open path to reach their matching tiles, the board jams. A jammed board means you instantly lose the level. Every single move you make must keep at least one path open so your ants can keep moving and your waiting slots can empty out.

Colony Flow Level 149 Step by Step Solution

Step 1: Open the bottom edge of the cake by pulling the yellow and dark purple blocks

The game starts with the bottom foundation of the cake completely exposed to the ant nest. You can clearly see a yellow line of tiles and pieces of the dark purple outline. Tap the yellow block and a dark purple block to move them into your active waiting slots. The ants will immediately stream up from the nest and start eating these bottom tiles. This action breaks open the outer shell of the cake and exposes the inner pink layer. Opening the bottom center is the perfect first move because the path is incredibly short. The ants travel fast and free up your waiting slots quickly.

Step 2: Activate the green outer border to create a long travel path

The green border surrounds the entire image and is exposed at the bottom left and bottom right corners. Pull a green block into your tray now. A huge stream of ants will split up and march up both sides of the green border. Sending ants on a long journey around the outside edge is a great strategy. It keeps a steady flow of tiles clearing without blocking the center paths. Your active green block will slowly count down over a long period of time. This gives you a safe active block while you focus your attention back on the center of the cake.

Step 3: Start clearing the brown background on the lower sides

screenshot

With the bottom green border missing, the lower sections of the brown background are now fully exposed. Pull a brown block into your waiting slots. The ants will march up the sides of the cake and begin eating the brown background tiles. Clearing the lower background removes the walls around the cake. This gives your ants more angles to attack the inner layers later on. You want the background to clear gradually so you do not have a massive wall of brown tiles left at the very end of the level.

Step 4: Dig into the thick pink layer of the cake

Since you cleared the bottom yellow layer in the first step, the large pink cake layer is completely wide open. Pull a pink block from your tray. You will see a massive swarm of ants rush into the center of the board to devour the pink tiles. The numbers on your pink block will drop very fast because the ants have a direct and wide path to their food. This move carves out the entire middle of the cake and reveals the white frosting layer hiding just above it.

Step 5: Clear the white frosting layer carefully

The white frosting layer separates the pink cake body from the red strawberry top. Do not pull the white block until the pink layer is almost entirely gone. If you pull the white block too early, the ants will not be able to reach the white tiles and the block will sit stuck in your waiting slot. Once the pink tiles are out of the way, tap the white block. The ants will surge up into the upper middle section of the picture and consume the frosting. This action finally exposes the top red section of the cake.

Step 6: Manage your active waiting slots to prevent a board jam

At this stage of the level your waiting slots will be quite full. You might have a green block slowly finishing the top border and a brown block slowly eating the upper background. You will also have your white block finishing the frosting. You must practice patience here. Do not pull any red blocks or extra yellow blocks until at least one of your current blocks reaches zero and disappears. Filling your last empty slot right now is extremely dangerous. Let the ants do their work and wait for a slot to open up naturally.

Step 7: Attack the red top layer and the decorative strawberry

When a slot finally opens up in your tray, you can target the top of the cake. The white frosting is gone so the red tiles are completely open. Tap a red block to send your colony after the cake top and the pixel art strawberry. The red tiles are packed tightly together at the top center of the board. The ants will funnel up the middle and eat the red layer very quickly. You are now very close to clearing the entire picture.

Step 8: Clean up the remaining yellow and dark purple details

Look closely at the remaining picture. You will notice a few leftover yellow tiles from the cake interior and some dark purple pieces from the upper cake outline. Because you have eaten away the entire center of the cake, these small details are completely exposed. Pull your remaining yellow block and your remaining dark purple block. The ants will quickly snatch up these stray pieces. Clearing these details ensures you have plenty of tray space for the very final moves of the level.

Step 9: Consume the final brown background tiles to win the level

The only tiles left on the board are the top sections of the brown background. Your waiting slots should be mostly empty now. Pull your final brown block from the tray. The ants will march straight up through the empty space where the cake used to be and eat the very last background tiles. The numbers on the brown block will hit zero and the board will be completely empty. You have successfully managed your paths and cleared the level without a single jam.

Final Thought

Taking apart the cake from the bottom up while slowly working the outer borders is the most reliable way to beat this board. Patience with your waiting slots is truly the secret to winning. If you ever feel stuck on a specific step or cannot visualize how the ants move around the outer edge, I highly encourage you to watch the video above this article. Seeing the colony flow in real time makes the whole strategy very easy to understand. Good luck with your puzzle solving.
