Colony Flow Level 221 presents a beautiful pixel art scene of a white whale flying through a light blue sky. You will see a green grassy field with bright red flowers at the bottom and a warm yellow sun in the top right corner. The picture looks peaceful but the tray management here requires strict attention. I played this board multiple times to find the safest order of operations so you never hit a dead end.

Colony Flow Level 221 Overview

What You Are Working With

The picture takes up the entire upper half of your screen. The top section is dominated by the light blue sky and the giant white whale. The bottom section features a thick layer of green grass speckled with red flower tiles. Up in the top right corner sits a sun made of yellow tiles surrounded by an orange border.

Below the picture is the nest hole where your ants spawn. At the very bottom of your screen is the block tray. You will see several light blue blocks and white blocks right at the top of the stack. Most of these starting blocks have large numbers like twenty. Deeper down in the stack you will find the red blocks for the flowers and the green blocks for the grass. You have five empty waiting slots above the block tray. Every block you tap moves into one of these five slots. The ants read the colors in the slots and run out to eat the matching tiles.

What It Takes to Clear Level 221 Board

Winning this level comes down to strict slot discipline. You lose the game the moment all five waiting slots fill up with blocks that the ants cannot process. The ants must have an open physical path to reach a specific color tile. If you pull a red block into your slots too early the ants will just ignore it because the red flowers are trapped inside the solid green grass. That red block will sit in your tray and waste a valuable space. You must peel the picture apart layer by layer. You have to clear the sky and the whale first to open the necessary walking lanes to the other objects.

Colony Flow Level 221 Step by Step Solution

Step 1: Focus on the light blue sky to open initial paths

Start the level by tapping two of the light blue blocks from your tray. These blocks carry a value of twenty each. The ants will stream out of the central nest hole and split into two main columns. They will travel straight up the left and right borders of the picture to reach the exposed light blue sky tiles. Since the sky forms the entire outer edge of the upper picture the ants have immediate access to their target. You want to let these two light blue blocks sit in your slots and count down for a few seconds. The ants will slowly eat away the edges of the sky and create much wider paths for the rest of the colony. Do not rush to fill the remaining three slots just yet. Patience keeps your board moving smoothly.

Step 2: Bring in the white blocks to start dismantling the whale

The giant white whale sits right in the middle of the light blue sky. Once the ants clear out the outer boundary of the sky they will expose the edges of the whale. This is your signal to pull a white twenty block into your waiting slots. Adding a second color to the mix is a great strategy because it splits the colony stream. A portion of the ants will continue chewing on the light blue sky while a massive new wave will charge straight into the center to eat the white whale tiles. Splitting the stream like this means you are processing multiple blocks at the exact same time. Your waiting slots will empty much faster and your tray will never jam.

Step 3: Manage the tray space carefully as the large blocks count down

screenshot

You will notice that the light blue blocks and the white blocks take a long time to finish. The high numbers mean the ants have to make many trips back and forth. You must manage your tray space carefully during this phase. You will see a red seventeen block sitting in the tray early on. Ignore it completely for now. The red flowers are buried deep inside the green grass at the bottom of the picture. The ants cannot reach those red tiles until they eat through the surrounding layers. If you tap that red seventeen block right now it will freeze in your slot. It will sit there occupying twenty percent of your tray capacity while you desperately need space for light blue and white blocks. Keep pulling fresh light blue and white blocks to replace the ones that finish. Focus entirely on the sky and whale until the upper half of the board looks very bare.

Step 4: Attack the red flowers and orange sun outline once the paths open

The ants will eventually chew through enough white and light blue tiles to completely expose the red flowers near the bottom and the orange sun border at the top right. You will know the time is right when you can clearly see empty space touching those specific colors. Now is the perfect moment to pull the red seventeen block and the orange six block. The red flowers are spread out across the green grass in small clusters. The ants will dive into the gaps to grab the red tiles and clear them out. The orange tiles form a very thin ring around the yellow sun. The orange six block will count down incredibly fast. Clearing these two accent colors removes the tricky obstacles and frees up the board for the final massive solid colors.

Step 5: Release the green blocks to clear out the grassy field

The bottom section of the picture contains a thick solid block of green grass tiles. Once the red flowers disappear the grass becomes completely vulnerable. Pull your heavy twenty point green blocks from the tray and watch the swarm go to work. The ants will flood the bottom of the screen in a massive wave. The green blocks will count down incredibly fast because the grass tiles are positioned extremely close to the nest hole. The ants do not have to travel far at all to grab a green tile and return. This rapid back and forth clearing keeps your waiting slots perfectly safe from jamming. You can pull multiple green blocks in a row without any fear.

Step 6: Clear the yellow sun tiles to finish the board

The yellow sun sits slightly isolated in the top right corner of the picture. You have a yellow ten block and a yellow twelve block waiting in your tray. Tap them into your slots once the green grass starts disappearing. A dedicated group of ants will march across the newly cleared sky area and devour the sun. You might have a few stray light blue or white blocks left in your tray at this point. Pull them into the remaining empty slots to clear the very last tiles of the sky and the whale. The remaining ants will clean up the final stragglers across the board. The entire picture will vanish and you will successfully beat the level.

Final Thought

Colony Flow Level 221 is a perfect test of your patience and your ability to read the board. You just have to resist the urge to pull colors before the ants can actually reach them. Keeping your slots open is the only way to survive the massive twenty point blocks. If you ever feel stuck or if any part of this written guide is hard to visualize I highly encourage you to watch the video above this article. Seeing the exact timing of the block pulls will help you clear the board on your very first try.
