Welcome to Colony Flow Level 917. This specific puzzle features a gigantic pixel art picture of a cat face. You will spend a lot of time managing large blocks of white background and a heavy black outline. I play every level myself and build these guides to help you get past the tricky parts without getting stuck. This level relies heavily on patience and color management. You must feed the right numbered blocks to your ant colony while managing the limited space at the bottom of your screen. Let me walk you through the exact method I used to clear this board.
Colony Flow Level 917 Overview
What You Are Working With
The pixel art picture at the top of your screen is incredibly detailed. The cat face includes a massive white background, a thick black outline, green and blue eyes, orange stripes, and bright pink ears. The tray at the bottom holds the numbered blocks you need to feed the ants. You will see massive numbers like White 69 and Black 39 early on. This level also introduces Connected Boxes. These are two separate blocks in your tray joined together by a colored line. They operate as a single unit when you select them.
What It Takes to Clear Level 917 Board
To win this level you must command the ants to eat every single colored tile on the board until the picture is gone. The ants stream out of the dark nest hole at the bottom of the screen. They will travel along any open path to reach the food tiles that match the colors in your waiting slots. You have exactly five waiting slots to hold blocks. If you pull blocks from the tray and fill all five slots, the ants must have a valid path to reach those colors. If the paths are blocked and no ants can eat, the waiting slots jam. When the slots jam and the ants stop moving, you lose the level immediately.
Colony Flow Level 917 Step by Step Solution
Step 1: Open the bottom edge with white and black blocks
You begin the level staring at a solid wall of tiles at the bottom edge of the cat face. The ants need a way into the center of the picture. Start by pulling the Black 39 block and the White 45 block from your tray. These two blocks will drop into your waiting slots. The ants will immediately climb out of the nest hole and attack the white fur and black outline at the bottom. Because these numbers are so large, they will occupy your waiting slots for a long time. You must be patient. Watch the numbers tick down one by one as the ants eat the tiles. Do not pull too many large blocks at once. Keep at least two waiting slots empty so you can react to new colors that open up.
Step 2: Clear the orange and green stripes on the lower face
As the ants chew through the bottom white and black tiles, they will expose the orange stripes and green details of the cat face. Now you can start pulling the Orange 40 block and the Green 40 block. The ants will branch off into two separate streams. One group will eat the orange stripes while the other targets the green sections. This splits the workload and helps drain your waiting slots faster. Always make sure the ants have an open path to the colors you select. If you pull a Green 32 block but the green tiles are trapped behind a wall of black tiles, that green block will sit dead in your slot. Keep the flow moving by only choosing colors that the ants can actually touch.
Step 3: Manage the red and blue connected boxes carefully
Eventually you will spot a Red 30 block connected to a Blue 1 block by a colored line in your tray. This is the Connected Boxes mechanic. When you tap either one of these blocks, both of them will jump into your waiting slots at the exact same time. This action instantly fills two of your precious five slots. The single blue tile is located deep inside the eye of the cat. The red tiles make up the inner ears and nose. You must wait to pull this connected pair until the black outline around the eyes is completely gone. If you pull the pair too early, the blue tile will be unreachable. The Blue 1 block will jam your slot and put you in immediate danger of losing.
Step 4: Drain the connected pair and open the upper face
Once you confirm the eyes are exposed, pull the red and blue connected pair. The ants will rush in and instantly eat the single blue tile. This clears the Blue 1 block from your waiting slot in a matter of seconds. With that slot free, the ants will focus their full attention on the red tiles scattered around the nose and ears. The Red 30 block will slowly drain. While the ants work on the red tiles, you can bring up more black blocks like Black 35 and Black 44 to continue chewing away at the thick black outline. The outline snakes all the way around the ears, so the ants will have plenty of black tiles to eat for a very long time.
Step 5: Process the massive pink sections in the ears
With the lower face and eyes cleared, your ants will march toward the top of the board to tackle the huge pink ears. You will find several massive pink blocks in your tray, including Pink 56 and Pink 40. The ears are packed with solid clusters of pink tiles. This is actually a great situation because the ants do not have to travel far between bites. They will swarm the solid pink shapes and drain the high numbers rapidly. Feed the pink blocks into the tray one after another. Just remember to keep an eye on your remaining waiting slots. Never let all five slots fill up with pink if there are not enough pink tiles left to satisfy the numbers.
Step 6: Navigate the final sets of connected boxes
As you near the end of the puzzle, you will encounter more Connected Boxes in your tray. You will see a Pink 8 block tied to a Pink 23 block. Since both blocks share the exact same color, they are very safe to pull. The ants will treat them like one massive pink block and clear them without any pathing issues. You will also spot a Pink 1 block connected to a Purple 2 block. Look closely at the board to locate the two tiny purple tiles. Ensure the ants have a clear path to reach those purple tiles before you pull this final connected pair. Once the purple tiles vanish, the ears are completely finished.
Step 7: Clean up the remaining white background tiles
The last remaining obstacle is the massive white background that surrounds the top of the cat head. You will have giant white blocks left in your tray, such as White 49, White 55, and White 23. At this stage the board is mostly empty space. The ants have wide open paths to reach every corner of the screen. Go ahead and fill your empty waiting slots with these final white blocks. The colony will fan out in a wide wave across the top edge of the board. Watch as they consume the very last white tiles. The numbers will hit zero, the waiting slots will clear, and you will win the level.
Final Thought
This level tests your ability to read the board and manage large numbers without panicking. The Connected Boxes add a fun twist, but as long as you double check your paths before pulling them, you will survive. If you find any of these steps hard to picture, I highly recommend watching the video above this article. Seeing the ants move in real time makes the strategy much easier to understand. Good luck clearing those tiles.
