Colony Flow Level 517 brings a beautiful tropical beach sunset to your screen but the mechanics are anything but a relaxing vacation. You have to direct your ant colony to eat away a detailed pixel art picture complete with palm trees and a bright orange sky. I played through this specific level and figured out the exact sequence to keep the ants moving without clogging up the board. You will need a solid strategy to manage your block tray and clear this island scene successfully.

Colony Flow Level 517 Overview

What You Are Working With

The board features a large circular pixel art picture of a tropical beach setting. You see a bright yellow sun setting into blue ocean waves right in the center. Green palm trees stand on a sandy beach on the right side of the circle. White clouds and dark grey birds dot the large orange sky above the water. Your tray at the bottom holds a tall stack of colored blocks with numbers indicating how many pixels each block will clear.

This level features the connected boxes mechanic in the tray. Certain blocks in your queue are physically linked together by a thick line. When you pull one block from the tray you automatically pull its partner at the exact same time. This takes up two of your five available waiting slots instantly. You also have a few peach colored blocks meant for the sand and plenty of green blocks for the island foliage.

What It Takes to Clear Level 517 Board

Winning this level requires you to erase every single pixel from the tropical scene until the canvas is totally blank. The ants stream out from a nest hole located near the bottom edge of the picture. Your main goal is to feed the colony the correct color blocks without filling your five waiting slots.

The biggest threat to your success is creating a dead end. If you fill all five waiting slots and the ants cannot reach the matching colors on the board you lose the level instantly. You must always maintain an open path to the colors you queue up. The connected boxes make this incredibly dangerous because they consume two slots at once leaving you with very little room for error. You have to carve wide paths into the picture early on so your ants can reach the orange sky and green trees without getting stuck behind blocked pixels.

Colony Flow Level 517 Step by Step Solution

Step 1: Open the bottom center with yellow and blue blocks.

You want to start by cracking the bottom edge of the beach picture right above the nest hole. Pull the small yellow block and the blue block to get the initial stream of ants out of the nest. The blue water and the yellow sun reflection sit very close to the bottom edge. Pulling these colors guarantees your ants can immediately start working without wandering around looking for a path. If you pull an orange or green block too early those ants will just sit in the waiting slots and take up valuable space.

Step 2: Expand into the lower white clouds and green land.

Once the bottom edge is open you can start pulling the green and orange blocks. Pull a green block to send ants toward the bottom of the palm tree trunks on the right side. You should also pull an orange block to start chipping away at the sunset colors peeking through the lower half. Keep an eye on the white blocks in your tray as well. You will need to send white ants to clear the lower cloud formations that wrap around the sun. Spreading your ants across different colors keeps the center of the board wide open.

Step 3: Push deeper into the yellow sun and dark grey birds.

With the bottom of the picture mostly cleared you now have direct access to the core of the yellow sun. Pull the larger yellow blocks from the tray to clear out the center of the circle. You will also start seeing dark grey blocks in your tray. These correspond to the small flocks of birds flying across the sunset. The birds are scattered in tiny groups so the dark grey ants will need clear walking paths to reach them. Make sure the orange and yellow pixels blocking the birds are fully cleared before you commit a dark grey block to your waiting slots.

Step 4: Manage the first set of connected tray blocks carefully.

This is where the level introduces the connected boxes mechanic. You will see an orange block connected directly to a yellow block in your tray. Before you pull this pair you must look at the board and confirm that both orange pixels and yellow pixels are completely accessible. Pulling this pair fills two of your five slots immediately. If only the orange pixels are reachable the yellow block will sit in your tray and choke your available space. Send the ants from this connected pair to eat the remaining sun and the middle section of the sky.

Step 5: Break down the upper orange sunset and palm tree leaves.

The board is now carved out in the middle leaving a large horseshoe shape of pixels around the top and sides. The ants have to travel much further from the nest hole to reach their targets. Another connected pair will appear featuring a large orange block linked to a large green block. Pull this pair when you have a clear path to the big palm tree fronds on the right and the massive orange sky on the top left. The green ants will demolish the rest of the palm trees while the orange ants eat away huge chunks of the sunset.

Step 6: Handle the final connected pair and clear the side remnants.

Your tray will reveal a pink block connected to a dark blue block. The pink blocks correspond to the tiny bits of peach colored sand scattered around the beach area. The dark blue blocks handle the remaining dark water sections on the lower left. Pull this connected pair only when the side edges of the board are completely exposed. The ants will walk up the empty white canvas and split off to the left and right edges. Keep your remaining slots free just in case you need to pull a small white block to clear a rogue cloud blocking their path.

Step 7: Clear the final top border of white clouds to win.

At this stage the entire bottom and middle of the board is completely empty. The only pixels left are a thin border of white clouds and a few specks of orange sky at the very top edge of the canvas. Your tray will be full of large white blocks and a few small orange and yellow blocks. Pull the white blocks and watch your ants march all the way up the empty screen to eat the top border. Pull the final yellow and orange blocks to clean up the corners. The ants will finish the last few pixels and the board will clear completely resulting in a win.

Final Thought

This tropical puzzle demands careful attention to your tray space especially when those connected boxes appear. Always make sure your ants have a physical path to their target colors before you fill your waiting slots. If you find yourself getting stuck on the connected pairs or losing track of the scattered bird pixels I encourage you to watch the video above this article to see exactly how I managed the board.
