Colony Flow Level 458 drops you right in front of a giant pixel art hippo. This board forces you to carve a very specific path because several vital blocks sit trapped behind locks in your lower tray. The massive snout blocks almost everything else so pulling the wrong color early guarantees a fast loss. I played this level a few times to figure out the safest route through the huge pink area without jamming the waiting slots. The secret to winning is managing your space while you dig upward to free your trapped colors.
Colony Flow Level 458 Overview
What You Are Working With
The picture is a large hippo face made of pink, green, white, and black tiles. A massive pink snout takes up the entire lower half of the design. Above that sits a green head with black eyes and white background highlights. You will notice three special key tiles resting right across the middle of the face. A green key sits on the left. An orange key sits in the center. A blue key rests on the right. Down in your tray you have your standard five waiting slots. Below those slots you will see several colored blocks trapped behind a green lock and a blue lock. You cannot pull those trapped blocks until the ants reach and eat the matching keys on the board.
What It Takes to Clear Level 458 Board
Clearing this board means eating every single pixel of the hippo to reveal the blank canvas underneath. You must do this without ever filling your five waiting slots with blocks that have no open path. If you pull five blocks and the ants cannot reach the right colors on the board you lose immediately. You have to feed the lower colors first to carve a path to the keys. Once the ants eat the keys the locks break and vanish from your tray. This gives you the high number blocks you need to finish the top half of the board.
Colony Flow Level 458 Step by Step Solution
Step 1: Start by opening the bottom black outline.
The very bottom edge of the hippo snout features a row of black outline tiles. You want to pull a black block into your waiting slots first. A small black block will send your ants marching out of the nest hole to chew away that bottom barrier. This creates the initial opening you need to reach the pink tiles. Watch the numbers on your black block tick down to zero as the ants carry the pieces away. Keep your remaining four waiting slots completely empty during this first move. You want to maintain maximum flexibility as the main puzzle board begins to open up.
Step 2: Dig deep into the massive pink snout.
With the bottom outline gone your ants now have direct access to a huge wall of pink tiles. Pull your pink 10 block and your pink 6 block up into the waiting slots. The ants will flood out and begin carving a wide path right up the middle of the snout. The sheer volume of pink tiles means your waiting slots will be busy for a long time. Pull a larger pink 35 block once the smaller ones run out. Let the ants work their way upward. You are trying to expose the middle row where the keys sit. Do not pull any green or white blocks yet because the ants cannot reach those colors at all.
Step 3: Clear the lower white background tiles.
As the pink snout disappears you will expose the white outline tiles on the far left and right edges of the face. Now is the perfect time to pull a white 12 block into your tray. The ants will split up and march up the sides of the board to clear that white border. This is a great move because it creates alternate paths for your colony. Having open paths on the left and right prevents traffic jams near the main nest hole. Make sure the white block completely empties out of your waiting slots before moving on to the next major color.
Step 4: Break through the black nostrils.
Deep inside the pink snout sit two small black nostrils. The ants will bump right into these as they eat their way up the middle. Pull a small black 14 block into your tray. The ants will quickly clear out those central black tiles. This simple move connects the lower empty space with the upper half of the snout. It also gets your ants one tile closer to that center orange key. Always clear these small obstacles the moment they become accessible. If you ignore the black nostrils your ants have to funnel through narrow gaps to keep eating the pink snout.
Step 5: Secure the green key on the left side.
Your ants will eventually chew away enough pink tiles on the left side to touch the green key. The moment they eat the pixel underneath the key the green lock in your tray will shatter. This is a huge relief because it frees up a green 25 block and a white 30 block. Up until this point you had very few options in your lower tray. Now you can finally start planning your attack on the top half of the hippo. Keep focusing on the pink tiles in the center so you can reach the remaining two locked keys.
Step 6: Attack the green head area.
Now that you have a green block available you can send ants into the top section of the picture. Pull the green 25 block into one of your waiting slots. The ants will bypass the remaining pink tiles and march straight for the green forehead and ears. This relieves a massive amount of pressure on the lower half of the board. You now have ants working on two completely different sections at the exact same time. This split focus helps you cycle through blocks much faster and keeps the board flowing. Just remember to always watch your five slot limit.
Step 7: Grab the blue and orange keys.
While some ants eat the green head your other ants will finish off the last thick row of the pink snout. This action clears the tiles directly under the orange key in the center and the blue key on the right. Eating these pixels shatters the final blue lock in your lower tray. Now every single block for this level is completely unlocked and available to use. You have total freedom to pull whatever color you need. Take a second to look at the board and identify which colors have the widest open paths right now.
Step 8: Clear out the large black eyes.
The upper green head contains two large black eyes. Your ants now have clear paths touching all sides of these eyes. Pull a heavy black 47 block into your tray. You might also have a black 2 block left over so pull that one as well. The colony will rush up the board and devour the black pixels. Because the path is so wide open the ants will drain this huge block very quickly. This move leaves the green head completely isolated from the white background. You are now in the final stretch of the puzzle. Make sure you only pull blocks for colors that physically touch the open canvas.
Step 9: Sweep the remaining white edges.
The entire top edge and corners of the picture consist of white background tiles. Pull your white 30 block and your white 28 block into your waiting slots. The ants will take the long route around the outside of the hippo face to reach these final white pieces. This takes a little bit of time because the travel distance from the nest hole is very long. Do not panic and pull extra blocks while you wait. Let the ants do their job and clear the border. Filling your tray right now will cause a fatal dead end. Patience here guarantees you will survive to the final move.
Step 10: Finish the final isolated pixels.
You will likely have a few scattered pink and green pixels left on the board. Your tray will be mostly empty by this point. You might have a tiny pink 11 block and a green 13 block still sitting there waiting for action. Pull them up now. The ants will sprint out to clean up these last few crumbs. Ensure they have clear paths before you drag them into the slots. The moment the final pixel vanishes the board will register as clear. The ants will finish their current paths and you will win the level.
Final Thought
Level 458 requires excellent pace control to survive the early lock restrictions. You have to trust the slow dig through the thick pink snout before the board really opens up for you. If you find yourself getting stuck or filling your tray too fast go ahead and watch the video above this article. Seeing the exact timing of the tray pulls in motion makes the whole process much easier to replicate on your own phone.
