What You Are Working With

The picture for this puzzle is a wonderful pixel art design of a monster plant in a pot. It looks just like a classic piranha plant from your favorite retro video games. The plant sits in a thick light blue pot with a dark blue rim. Inside the pot you will see a layer of dark brown soil. The plant itself features a tall green stem with wide green leaves. The head of the monster plant has a bright red interior mouth with green lips and a pink petal crown. Behind the plant there is a vibrant background made of huge dark red corner sections and a bright orange circular glow. Your tray at the bottom holds blocks loaded with numbers that match all these specific colors. You will see blocks for dark grey outlines alongside stacks of light blue and dark red.

What It Takes to Clear Level 161 Board

Winning this level requires you to completely erase every single colored tile from the board. Your ants will pour out of the black nest hole at the bottom and follow open paths to their target colors. The main challenge comes from your block tray. You only have five waiting slots available to hold active colors. If you pull up five blocks and the ants cannot reach any matching tiles you will instantly lose the game. Your goal is to constantly rotate colors by choosing blocks that have a clear wide open path to the picture. You must peel the outer layers of the picture away first to expose the inner layers.

Colony Flow Level 161 Step by Step Solution

Step 1: Open the initial paths to the outer picture details.

You need to start by pulling colors that touch the very outside edges of the picture. The outer border contains large chunks of dark red background and bright pink flower petals. Pull a pink block from the tray to send your first wave of ants up to the top of the board. The pink petals are fully exposed to the open space so the ants will start eating them immediately. Next pull a light blue block to target the bottom of the plant pot. The light blue tiles are right above the nest hole so the ants have an incredibly short path to travel. Bring up a dark grey block to begin working on the thick black outline that surrounds the entire design. The dark grey ants will split up and march around the perimeter of the plant. Keep your remaining two slots open for now to maintain a safety net in case a block takes a long time to count down to zero.

Step 2: Push deeper into the light blue pot and dark grey borders.

The light blue block will count down very fast because the ants are right next to the pot. When that block finishes its count it will disappear and free up a slot. Immediately pull another light blue block to keep the pressure on the pot base. The dark grey outline is very long and snakes around every single part of the plant. You will need to keep pulling dark grey blocks to peel this outline away. Watch your pink block at the top carefully. The pink ants are chewing through the thick outer petals of the monster plant. Grab an orange block from your tray to send ants to the bright orange circular background behind the plant stem. Your screen will be filled with different colored ants branching out in every direction. Make sure you only select colors that have a direct unobstructed route to the picture.

Step 3: Attack the enormous dark red background sections.

The dark red background takes up a massive amount of space on the board. You have huge red blocks in your tray with numbers in the mid thirties. Now that the outer edges are slightly broken up you can begin clearing these large red sections. Pull a dark red block into an empty slot. You will see a giant swarm of red ants charge toward the lower left and lower right corners of the board. These background blocks take a long time to clear so they will sit in your tray while the ants do their work. Because a red block is occupying one of your slots you must be very careful with the other four spaces. Rotate your light blue and dark grey blocks through those remaining slots. The light blue ants will finish off the bottom half of the pot and start eating the dark blue rim.

Step 4: Dig into the dark brown soil and clear the green leaves.

With the light blue pot mostly out of the way you have a clear path to the dark brown soil. Pull up a brown block and watch the ants dig into the dirt layer. The dirt layer sits right below the green stem of the plant. Once the dirt is gone you can pull your first green block. The green ants will rush the board and begin eating the lower stem and the large green leaves on the sides. While this is happening your red ants are still tirelessly working on the massive dark red background. Pull a second red block if you have an open slot. Sending twice as many red ants to the corners will help you chew through those giant numbers much faster. Your dark grey ants are now pushing into the inner outline of the plant mouth.

Step 5: Focus heavily on the orange glow and the pink crown.

The board is starting to look much smaller now as the bottom half is completely empty space. Your ants have a huge open area to travel across. Bring up another orange block to clear the remaining pieces of the orange glowing circle behind the plant head. The orange background forms a wide arc so the ants will split to the left and the right. Pull another pink block to keep eating the top petals. The pink crown of the monster plant is quite thick and requires several blocks to fully erase. The green ants are now moving up the stem and reaching the green lips of the monster plant. You are doing a great job keeping your slots rotating. Whenever a block hits zero and vanishes you should instantly replace it with a color that touches the open space.

Step 6: Clear the bright red inner mouth and remaining details.

You finally have access to the very center of the picture where the monster plant has a bright red interior mouth with a small tongue detail. Pull up a bright red block to send a fresh wave of ants straight up the middle of the board. They will march right past the empty stem area and dive into the mouth. The massive dark red background is finally starting to disappear entirely. You only have a few scattered red blocks left in the corners. Pull your final dark red block to finish that background. The dark grey ants are finishing the final pieces of outline around the teeth and lips. Your tray is full of blocks with very small single digit numbers now which means you are incredibly close to the end of the puzzle.

Step 7: Clean up the final floating pixels to win the game.

screenshot

The board is wide open and you only have tiny fragments of the picture left. There are a few floating pink petals at the very top and a couple of orange pixels hanging in the air. A tiny sliver of green remains near the mouth area. Look at your tray and pull the exact blocks you need to clear these final floating pieces. Pull a dark grey block with a small number to erase the last outline pixel. Select a pink block to sweep away the last top petal. Choose an orange block for the final background detail. Your ants will rush out and grab these last pieces of food. They will carry the food down the board and drop it into the nest hole. The numbers in your tray will hit zero one by one until the board is completely blank and you win the level.

Final Thought

This puzzle is a fantastic test of how well you can balance long tasks and short tasks. Managing those massive red background blocks while peeling away the tiny dark grey outlines is the real secret to winning. Take your time and never pull a color unless you are absolutely sure the ants have a clear path to reach it. I hope my walkthrough helped you guide your colony to success.
