Colony Flow Level 421 brings a unique challenge that forces you to carefully manage your ant routing from the very first move. You start with a massive pixel art picture that is completely blocked off at the bottom. I cleared this level by staying patient and slowly working my way around the obstacles rather than rushing the center. You have to focus on picking the right colors to keep your waiting slots open.
Colony Flow Level 421 Overview
What You Are Working With
The board presents a large pixel art face that looks a bit like a jester. The majority of the pixels are dark purple and white. The dark purple tiles form the background and the outer shape of the head. The white tiles make up the inner face. There are also bright green tiles forming a hat and hair pieces on the top left and right edges. The most important feature on the board is a solid horizontal row of brown chocolate tiles spanning the entire bottom edge just above the ant nest. This chocolate wall completely blocks direct vertical access to the picture. Embedded deep inside the dark purple sections of the face are two keys. You will see a yellow key on the lower left side and a cyan key on the right side. Down in your tray you start with a mix of white blocks, dark purple blocks, and green blocks. Some of the green blocks are physically connected to each other. Underneath the top layer of blocks you will find gray hidden boxes stamped with question marks. The tray also holds a cyan lock and a yellow lock that prevent you from reaching the final blocks you need to win.
What It Takes to Clear Level 421 Board
Winning this level requires you to erase every single colored pixel and every piece of chocolate from the board. Your ants pour out of the round nest hole at the bottom of the screen and march toward the picture. You control them by pulling colored blocks from your tray into your waiting area. The waiting area only has five empty square slots. Every time you tap a block in the tray it moves up into one of these five slots. The number on the block tells you exactly how many tiles the ants can eat. As the ants chew the matching pixels on the board the number on your waiting block counts down. When the number hits zero the block vanishes and gives you your empty slot back. If you pull too many blocks and fill all five slots without providing an open path for your ants you lose the level immediately. You must carefully guide your colony around the chocolate wall and collect the keys to unlock the rest of your tray.
Colony Flow Level 421 Step by Step Solution
Step 1: Route your ants around the bottom chocolate wall.
Begin the level by pulling the dark purple block and the connected green blocks from your starting tray. Because the brown chocolate completely seals off the bottom of the picture your ants cannot travel straight up. Instead they will form lines and march all the way to the far left and far right sides of the screen. They will travel up the outside edges of the chocolate to reach the exposed dark purple and green pixels on the borders. Watch the numbers on your pulled blocks count down as the ants feed. The connected green blocks take up two of your precious five waiting slots at the same time. You must wait for these outer edges to clear and for your waiting slots to empty out before you make your next move. Do not pull any other colors yet because they have no valid paths.
Step 2: Open the white center of the pixel picture.
Once the ants eat enough of the dark purple and green borders you will finally expose the top white section of the face. Look at your tray and pull your first white block into an empty waiting slot. The ants will run up the sides of the board and spill over the top edge to attack the white pixels. Opening this white section is highly beneficial because it creates a massive empty space in the middle of the board. This hollow area gives your colony much shorter travel routes to reach the remaining inner pieces. Keep an eye on your slot count. Wait for the white block to reach zero and disappear before you bring up another heavy numbered block. You always want to keep at least two empty slots available for emergencies.
Step 3: Collect the cyan key on the right side.
Shift your focus to the right side of the remaining picture where the cyan key is trapped. Pull another dark purple block from your tray to send a fresh wave of ants to the right side. The ants will aggressively carve away the dark purple pixels surrounding the key. Keep feeding them dark purple blocks until they eat the exact tile holding the cyan key. The moment that tile vanishes the cyan key will drop off the board and fly down into your tray. This key automatically opens the cyan lock that has been blocking a large portion of your blocks. Breaking this lock is a major turning point because it finally exposes the hidden boxes you need to clear the middle layers.
Step 4: Use the connected hidden boxes from the tray.
With the cyan lock out of the way you can now access the gray hidden boxes. These boxes have white question marks on them and hide their required color until you pull them up. They are also linked together so pulling one brings the whole group into your waiting area. Verify that you have at least two empty slots before you tap them. Pull them up and watch them flip over to reveal their colors. Because you spent time opening the white center and the dark purple sides your board has plenty of exposed colors available. The ants will immediately recognize the new colors and rush to the board to eat those tiles. This massive feeding frenzy will clear out a huge chunk of the remaining face and drop the overall pixel count very quickly.
Step 5: Collect the yellow key on the left side.
Now you must repeat your previous key strategy on the left side of the board. The yellow key is buried deep in the lower left dark purple section. Pull the appropriate dark purple blocks into your available slots to direct your colony to that area. The ants will march down the left side and surround the yellow key. Watch the block numbers count down as the dark purple tiles disappear one by one. When the ants consume the final pixel holding the yellow key it will drop down to your tray. This action shatters the yellow lock sitting at the very bottom of the screen. Your entire tray is now fully unlocked and you have free access to every single block required to finish the game.
Step 6: Break down the bottom chocolate barrier.
The chocolate row at the bottom has been a massive obstacle since the game started. Chocolate tiles in this game only clear when you eliminate the regular colored tiles directly touching them. Now that the main face is almost completely gone your ants can finally attack the final dark purple and white tiles resting right on top of the chocolate. Pull the necessary dark purple and white blocks from your unlocked tray. As the ants eat the pixels sitting directly on the brown wall the chocolate tiles underneath will break apart and vanish. This completely destroys the barrier and opens up the entire bottom of the board. Your ants now have a straight and incredibly fast path from the nest hole to the remaining picture.
Step 7: Clear the final floating pixel clusters.
You are now entering the final cleanup phase of the level. The board only has a few dozen tiles left scattered in small floating clusters of white and green and dark purple. Because the chocolate is gone the ants will pour straight up out of the nest and devour these pieces in a matter of seconds. Look closely at the remaining colors on the board and pull the exact matching blocks from your tray. Pull the remaining green block to finish the hat. Pull the last dark purple and white blocks to finish the face. Make sure you never pull a color that does not exist on the board. Keep pulling the correct blocks as your slots empty out until the final pixel is eaten and you win the game.
Final Thought
Level 421 demands a lot of patience with your early moves because that chocolate wall severely limits your options. If you take your time to route the ants around the outside and collect the cyan and yellow keys in order you will naturally keep your waiting slots flowing.
