Colony Flow Level 45 is a highly satisfying puzzle that has you dismantling a retro arcade machine built out of colorful pixel art. You start at the very bottom of the cabinet and have to carefully dig your way up to the screen and the top canopy. I played through this board and found that managing your waiting slots is the entire secret to winning.

Colony Flow Level 45 Overview

What You Are Working With

The picture on this board is a classic arcade machine. It features a large red base section with the word GAME written across it in different colors. Above the base sits a screen bordered in white with light blue diagonal stripes filling the interior. The entire machine is outlined in black tiles with thick green and purple borders running up the left and right sides. The nest hole sits directly below the center of the arcade machine. Your block tray contains high number blocks in colors like red and green and dark blue and purple. You will also notice a few hidden boxes waiting in the lower rows of the tray. These hidden boxes keep their colors a secret until the blocks above them clear out and they have room to move up.

What It Takes to Clear Level 45 Board

Clearing this board means eating the arcade machine from the bottom up while keeping your supply lines open. You have five waiting slots above your tray. If you pull a block and the ants cannot find an open path to reach matching food tiles on the board, that block will sit in a waiting slot. If you fill all five slots with blocked colors, your game is over. You win by only pulling colors that have an open path from the nest hole to the matching tiles. You will peel away the bottom corners first and then carve through the red base to access the screen and the top canopy.

Colony Flow Level 45 Step by Step Solution

Step 1: Open the bottom corners to access the main base

You need to create space for your ants to travel left and right along the bottom edge of the board. Look at your tray and pull the green and dark blue blocks. The ants will stream out of the nest hole and immediately start clearing the green and dark blue tiles on the bottom outer corners of the arcade machine. The numbers on your blocks will count down as the ants consume the food tiles. This initial move pushes the bottom boundary back and exposes the solid red base of the cabinet. Do not pull any red blocks until you see the green and dark blue ants completely finish their work on those bottom corners.

Step 2: Carve a path through the red base

Now that the bottom edge is exposed you can attack the large red section. Pull a high number red block into your waiting slots. The red ants will flood out and spread across the entire bottom horizontal section. This red base is very thick and requires a massive number of ants to clear. You might need to pull a second red block from the tray as the first one runs empty. The red ants will rapidly chew away the foundation of the arcade machine and reveal the black outline tiles sitting above the base. Keeping a path open here is crucial so make sure you do not clog your slots with colors meant for the screen.

Step 3: Break the black structure lines and white screen border

The structure of the arcade machine relies on thin black outline tiles. Pull a black block into your slots to send black ants up through the cleared base. They will attach to the black structural lines and start eating their way upward. Once the black lines begin to break you will expose the white tiles that form the outer border of the arcade screen. Pull a white block from the tray. The white ants will march up the middle and clear the lower edge of the screen frame. This action creates a wide open entry point directly into the center of the picture.

Step 4: Clear the light blue screen interior

The screen of the arcade machine is filled with light blue and white stripes. You already opened the white border so now you can send light blue ants inside. Pull a light blue block into a waiting slot. The light blue ants will stream straight up the middle of the board and pour into the screen area. They will bounce around the interior and clear the stripes. As you pull blocks to feed this swarm you will notice the hidden boxes in your tray moving up into the active rows. These hidden boxes will reveal their colors once they become available. Keep an eye on them so you know what resources you have coming up next.

Step 5: Clean up the colorful text on the base

The word GAME sits right in the middle of the remaining red base tiles. The letters are made of blue and red and yellow tiles. You can clear these letters now because the paths are completely open all around them. Pull the matching blue and yellow blocks from your tray. The ants will quickly dissolve the text. You want to clear these letters out of the way so they do not block the ants trying to travel up to the higher sections of the board. Always ensure the specific text color you pull has a clear route from the nest hole before you bring it into a waiting slot.

Step 6: Push the ants up the side borders

The top half of the arcade machine is still completely solid. The only way to reach the top is to send ants up the left and right edges of the board. The outer edges are made of green and purple tiles. Pull the green and purple blocks from your tray. The ants will take a long walk from the nest hole all the way out to the sides and march straight up the borders. You have to be patient here because the travel time for the ants is much longer than it was at the bottom. Let the green and purple numbers count down naturally and do not panic pull other colors while you wait.

Step 7: Consume the top canopy of the arcade machine

screenshot

The final section of the board is the top canopy which contains red and yellow and dark blue tiles. The green and purple ants have now cleared the side paths all the way to the top corners. This means the top tiles are fully exposed and ready to eat. Pull the final red and yellow blocks from your tray. The ants will stream up both sides of the board and wrap around the top edge to finish the remaining picture. Watch your waiting slots as you pull these final moves to make sure you do not accidentally trap a color behind a missing path. The last few ants will clear the top border and you will win the board.

Final Thought

Level 45 tests your ability to carve a central path while managing the outer borders. If you focus on chewing through the red base early you will open up plenty of routes for your ants to reach the screen and the top canopy. If any of these maneuvers sound tricky to visualize you can always watch the video above this article to see exactly how the ants flow through the board.
