Colony Flow Level 398 brings a beautiful underwater pixel art puzzle for you to clear. You need to manage a massive amount of light blue water tiles while uncovering hidden boxes in your tray. I played through this level and found the exact order to deploy your ants without jamming your waiting slots. Follow my moves below to feed your colony and reveal the clear board.

Colony Flow Level 398 Overview

What You Are Working With

The picture at the top of your screen displays a large green and brown sea turtle swimming through the ocean. The background consists of light blue water tiles filling most of the upper area and dark blue tiles forming the deeper water near the bottom and the outer edges. You also have an orange fish in the upper left corner, pink coral on the bottom left side, and orange coral on the bottom right side. The tray at the bottom holds your colored numbered blocks. You start with blocks containing large numbers of light blue and dark blue in the top row. The lower rows contain hidden grey boxes. This includes a pair of connected hidden boxes. These hidden boxes will only reveal their true colors when you pull the blocks sitting above them to open a valid path for movement. You must use the colors available in your tray to match the colors of the picture exactly.

What It Takes to Clear Level 398 Board

To win this level you must clear every single pixel art tile from the screen. Your ants will stream out of the nest hole and follow the open paths to eat the matching colored tiles. The biggest risk is pulling too many different colors at once and filling all five waiting slots. If those five slots fill up and the ants cannot reach their matching tiles, the board hits a dead end and you lose the level. You have to clear the outer layers of the water first so the ants can gain access to the turtle and the coral underneath. Success requires timing your block pulls so that at least one color of ants is always actively clearing tiles. This constant activity reduces the numbers in the waiting slots and prevents a jam. Keeping the paths clear allows the colony to flow continuously.

Colony Flow Level 398 Step by Step Solution

Step 1: You start by clearing the outer layers of the light blue water.

The massive area of light blue water blocks access to the rest of the picture. You must clear this outer layer first to create room for the other colors. Begin by pulling the light blue block carrying the number twenty from the top row of your tray. The ants will immediately flood out of the nest hole and spread around the outer edges of the water background. The number on your light blue block in the waiting slot will quickly count down as the ants eat away the light blue tiles. Once the first wave of ants opens up some physical space on the board, pull the next light blue block to keep the momentum going. This steady flow of light blue ants prevents your waiting slots from sitting idle. Keep a close eye on the remaining light blue tiles so you do not overfill your slots with unneeded blocks.

Step 2: You reveal and pull the connected dark blue boxes to clear the deep water.

As you pull blocks from the top row, you open a path to the lower rows in your tray. This action reveals the connected hidden grey boxes. These linked boxes turn out to be dark blue blocks. Pull these connected dark blue blocks into your waiting slots. The game forces you to pull them as a group and clear them together. Because you already cleared a good chunk of the light blue water, your dark blue ants now have a clear path to reach the dark blue sections of the background. They will target the deep water areas around the bottom and the sides of the turtle. The numbers on these connected dark blue blocks are quite large, so they will sit in your waiting slots for a while. You must ensure they have constant access to the dark blue tiles to keep the numbers ticking down.

Step 3: You deploy red and brown blocks to clear the coral and the turtle shell.

With the water layers receding, the inner parts of the picture become exposed. You will see red blocks and brown blocks appear in your tray. Pull a red block to send ants toward the pink and red coral located at the bottom left of the scene. At the exact same time, pull a brown block to start working on the large brown shell of the sea turtle. The brown turtle shell contains a huge amount of tiles. The brown block will take plenty of time to count down to zero. By having red and brown ants working on different sides of the picture simultaneously, you maximize the clearing speed. Always check that the dark blue ants are still finding tiles to eat as well. You want three different colors actively eating the board to prevent any waiting slot from stalling.

Step 4: You send green ants to tackle the bright green turtle body.

The turtle features a bright green head and four green flippers. Once the water completely surrounding the turtle disappears, pull the green blocks from your tray. The green ants will stream up the paths and start breaking down the green tiles. At this point in the level, your waiting slots will look quite full with brown blocks, dark blue blocks, and green blocks. You must be very careful not to pull another color until one of these active blocks finishes counting down and leaves the waiting slot. Allow the green ants to chew through the flippers without interruption. The paths to the turtle body sit right in the center of the board, so the ants will naturally find their way straight up from the nest hole.

Step 5: You clear the remaining top bubbles with additional light blue blocks.

screenshot

As the central image shrinks down, you will notice scattered light blue tiles remaining near the top right corner. These look like little water bubbles trailing behind the swimming turtle. Pull another light blue block from your tray to send a fresh wave of ants up to the top right corner. You have to clear these floating tiles before you pull any lower priority colors. If you ignore these light blue tiles entirely, the light blue blocks will get stuck in your tray and block access to the final colors you need to win. Wait for a space to open in your waiting slots, then bring out the light blue block. The ants will take a long path around the outer edge to reach the top right corner and consume the bubbles.

Step 6: You finish the orange fish and the lower coral to empty the board.

screenshot

Now the board is getting quite empty. The remaining major features are the orange fish in the upper left corner and the orange coral in the bottom right corner. Pull the orange blocks from your tray to release the orange ants. Because the fish and the coral sit on opposite sides of the board, the orange ants will split up and tackle both sections at the exact same time. This split path action drains the numbers on your orange blocks very quickly. Keep feeding orange blocks into the waiting slots as soon as the previous ones finish. The fast clearing of the orange tiles helps free up your waiting slots for the final cleanup phase. Do not pull any unnecessary blocks during this step so you avoid a late game jam.

Step 7: You clean up the final border tiles to completely finish the puzzle.

screenshot

The only things left on the board are a few stray dark blue border tiles on the left side and tiny remnants of the green turtle head. Your waiting slots should have plenty of open space now. Pull the remaining dark blue blocks and the last small green blocks from the tray. The dark blue ants will march all the way up the left side to eat the final border tiles. The green ants will quickly finish off the last few pixels of the turtle head. Watch the numbers drop to zero as the last ants return to the nest hole. The board is completely clear, and you have successfully beaten the puzzle without ever causing a dead end in your waiting slots.

Final Thought

This underwater picture requires extreme patience and careful path management to clear. You have to peel away the massive layers of blue water before you can safely deploy the bright colors for the turtle and the coral. Keep your waiting slots flowing and always prioritize the colors that have immediate access to the open board. If you find any of these moves difficult to picture in your head, watch the video above this article to see exactly how I pulled the blocks and managed the ants.
