Welcome to Colony Flow Level 20. Liam Stone here to help you beat another puzzle. This level features a highly detailed pixel art cake sitting on a plate and surrounded by a massive background area. I play every single level myself and I know exactly how frustrating it is when your waiting slots jam up and ruin a good run. I will guide you through the exact sequence of moves I used to clear this board from start to finish.
Colony Flow Level 20 Overview
What You Are Working With
The pixel art picture at the top of your screen is a delicious slice of cake. The background is a massive area made entirely of light pink tiles. The dessert sits on a curved brown plate. The main body of the cake consists of yellow sponge tiles. The top of the cake is covered in dripping red icing. Two purple berries and one pink berry sit on top of the icing along with a single green leaf. A black outline surrounds the entire dessert and separates the different colors.
Looking at your tray at the bottom of the screen, you have a wide variety of numbered blocks. The most notable element in this level is the Connected Boxes mechanic. The very top row of your tray features four light pink blocks linked together. You also have single blocks in colors like yellow, brown, green, black, purple, red, and dark pink.
Level 20 Objective
You win the level when your colony of ants eats every single colored tile on the board. You achieve this by pulling colored blocks from the tray into your five waiting slots. The ants match the color of the block and march up to the board to eat the corresponding tiles. Every tile eaten reduces the number on the block by one. When a block reaches zero, it disappears and frees up a waiting slot. You must manage your choices so you never fill all five slots with colors the ants cannot reach. If you dead end the board and the waiting slots jam, you lose the level immediately.
Colony Flow Level 20 Step by Step Solution
Step 1: Pull the large group of connected light pink blocks to clear the outer edges.
You must start by attacking the massive light pink background that surrounds the entire cake. Tap the group of four connected light pink blocks in the top row of your tray. Because these blocks are linked together, they will move up and instantly occupy four of your five waiting slots. The blocks carry the numbers 35, 34, 30, and 35. A massive swarm of light pink ants will stream out of the nest hole. They will spread out and begin eating the outer border of the background. You now have only one empty waiting slot left, so you must let the ants work until some of these blocks hit zero.
Step 2: Bring in the yellow ants to start hollowing out the cake body.
Once the light pink ants clear away enough of the background to expose the yellow sponge of the cake, you can tap a yellow block. Pull the yellow block with the number 36 into your single remaining waiting slot. The yellow ants will find a path through the cleared background area and start devouring the large yellow section in the middle of the board. Doing this ensures you have ants working on two different areas of the puzzle at the same time. This speeds up the process and helps you empty those waiting slots faster.
Step 3: Tap the black block to attack the border lines.
As the background recedes further toward the center, the black outline around the cake becomes fully exposed. Tap the black block with the number 25. The black ants will follow the edges of the cleared areas and begin stripping away the thick black borders. Clearing the black outline is required before you can reach the deeper layers of the cake like the red icing and the berries. Keep watching your waiting slots and only pull a new block when a space completely frees up.
Step 4: Open up the bottom of the board by pulling a brown block.
The brown plate at the bottom of the picture is now exposed on both the left and right sides. Tap the brown block with the number 32 to send out the brown ants. They will target the plate tiles. Working on the plate at the bottom while other ants handle the top background is a great way to prevent a traffic jam on the board. The ants will split up and attack the puzzle from multiple angles.
Step 5: Start clearing the red icing and purple berries.
With the top black outline mostly gone, the red icing is now accessible. Tap the red block with the number 30. Shortly after the red ants begin their work, they will expose the edges of the two purple berries in the middle of the cake. Tap the purple block with the number 10. The purple ants will dive into the center of the icing to eat the first berry. You must be very careful not to tap the green block yet. The green leaf is trapped behind the top pink berry. If you pull the green block now, it will sit in your tray and waste a slot.
Step 6: Deploy the remaining high number yellow and light pink blocks.
The board is now wide open. The original background is almost completely gone and the cake body is half eaten. You will see another yellow block with the number 32 and more light pink blocks in your tray. Tap these blocks to send out massive waves of ants. They will clean up the rest of the yellow sponge and the lingering pieces of the background. Your waiting slots will cycle very quickly here because the paths are wide open and the ants have immediate access to their target tiles.
Step 7: Clear the isolated brown and black fragments.
As the main sections disappear, you are left with a few disconnected pieces of the brown plate and small segments of the black outline. Tap the remaining black block with the number 25 and any leftover brown blocks. The ants will hunt down these scattered pieces. The board is now extremely empty and your ants will have zero trouble reaching these final border tiles.
Step 8: Clear the green leaf and the final top berry to win the level.
You are now at the very end of the puzzle. The only things left are the green leaf and the final pink and red berry at the top center. The green tiles are completely exposed. Tap the green block with the number 8. The green ants will quickly consume the leaf. Finally, tap the remaining small blocks in your tray. You will see a pink 4, a red 1, a black 2, a pink 5, and a pink 1. Pull them all into your empty slots. The last few ants will carry away the top berry and the board will completely clear.
Overall Strategy to Clear Level 20 Board
Prioritize the Huge Background Area
The light pink background takes up the majority of the board and blocks access to the entire dessert. You must aggressively target the light pink tiles from the very first move. By pulling the highest number light pink blocks early, you give the ants maximum surface area to work with. This ensures the blocks count down steadily and frees up your waiting slots for the interior colors.
Respect the Connected Boxes Mechanic
The four connected light pink blocks are the most dangerous part of this level. Pulling them instantly fills four of your five available waiting slots. You must only pull connected boxes when you are absolutely sure the ants have an immediate, unobstructed path to massive amounts of that color. If you pull connected boxes and the color is trapped behind an outline, you will instantly jam your tray and lose.
Work the Puzzle from Multiple Angles
Do not focus all your attention on just the top or just the bottom of the cake. Once the background clears enough to expose the brown plate at the bottom and the red icing at the top, pull blocks for both colors. Sending brown ants south and red ants north keeps the paths separate. The ants will not trip over each other and the food tiles will clear at double the speed.
Delay the Small Detail Colors
It is highly tempting to pull the green block or the small pink blocks early in the level. You must resist this urge. The green leaf and the top pink berry are buried behind the black outline and the red icing. Pulling the green block too soon guarantees it will sit stuck in your waiting slot for several minutes. Keep your slots reserved for the large area colors like yellow, brown, and red until the board is almost completely empty.
Final Thought
Patience and slot management are everything in this puzzle. By clearing the massive background first and saving the small details for the very end, you will easily guide your colony to victory. If you find any of the steps or ant paths difficult to visualize from the text alone, I highly encourage you to watch the video provided above this article. Seeing the sequence in motion makes the strategy perfectly clear.
