Welcome to Colony Flow Level 428 where you get to dismantle a beautiful sailboat scene. This puzzle challenges you with a mix of connected boxes and the lock and key mechanic. You will need to carefully time your block pulls to free up tray space while keeping your ants marching at a steady pace. Let me show you exactly how to break down this picture without jamming your waiting slots.
Colony Flow Level 428 Overview
What You Are Working With
You start with a lovely pixel art picture of a sailboat resting on the water. The outer border of the picture is made entirely of dark purple tiles. Inside that dark purple border is a large green background acting as the sea and the sky. In the very center of the board sits the boat itself. The boat features a brown hull and large light tan sails. Three colored keys rest directly on top of the boat tiles. You have a cyan key sitting on the left side of the hull. A yellow key sits right in the middle of the boat. A green key is positioned on the right side of the hull. Down in your tray you will find a variety of numbered blocks waiting to be used. You have dark purple blocks for the border and green blocks for the sea and sky. You also have brown blocks for the hull and light tan blocks for the sails. Several blocks in your tray are bound together as connected boxes. You will also see three colored locks protecting blocks in the lower layers of your tray. These locks match the cyan yellow and green keys up on the board.
What It Takes to Clear Level 428 Board
Clearing this board requires working from the outside in while specifically targeting those three keys. You must breach the bottom dark purple and green layers to give your ants a path to the boat. Once the ants reach the boat they can start eating the brown and light tan tiles to collect the keys. Each collected key opens a matching lock down in your tray. This frees up the hidden blocks you need to finish the level. You win when every tile is gone and your tray is completely empty. You must manage your five waiting slots carefully throughout the entire process. If you pull too many blocks that have no open path to the board your waiting slots will fill up entirely. When all five slots are full and no ants can move you lose the level immediately. Keep a clear path open at all times.
Colony Flow Level 428 Step by Step Solution
Step 1: Pull the first green and dark purple blocks to open the bottom edge.
When you first look at the board you will notice the bottom edge is completely sealed by the dark purple border and the green background. You need to create an opening right away. Look at your tray and find the available green and dark purple blocks. Pull a green block and a dark purple block up into your waiting slots. The ants will stream out of the nest hole and head straight for the bottom right and bottom left corners of the picture. They will start chewing away the green and dark purple tiles. This is the best first move because it carves a path directly to the brown hull of the sailboat. While the green and dark purple ants do their work you can pull the first set of connected boxes. You will see a light tan block connected to a brown block by a small white line. Pulling one brings them both up into your tray slots at the same time. Let them sit in the waiting slots for a moment. They will not jam the board because the green and dark purple ants are actively clearing a path and keeping the slots flowing.
Step 2: Feed the brown ants to collect the cyan key on the left side.
Now that the bottom green and dark purple tiles are out of the way your ants have clear access to the bottom of the boat. The connected brown block in your waiting slot will finally activate. A stream of brown ants will march out and start eating the left side of the hull. This is exactly what you want because the cyan key rests right on those brown tiles. As the ants consume the left side of the hull they will eventually eat the specific tile holding the cyan key. Collecting this key immediately shatters the cyan lock down in your tray. Breaking this lock helps you immensely because it reveals more green blocks that you need for the background. Keep a close eye on your waiting slots during this phase. The light tan block you pulled earlier will also start sending out ants to eat the left sail. This simultaneous eating action keeps your slots from jamming up and causing you to fail the level.
Step 3: Pull the second set of connected boxes to maintain your momentum.
With the left side of the boat vanishing you need to keep the pressure on the remaining tiles. Look in your tray for the next pair of connected boxes. You will find a light tan block connected to a dark purple block. Pull this pair into your waiting slots. You will also want to pull another green block to keep the sea and sky clearing process going smoothly. The light tan ants will head straight for the remaining sail tiles. The green ants will continue eating the green background all around the boat. The dark purple block will wait patiently in the slot. It will not cause you to lose because the green and light tan ants are keeping the board active and moving. You always want to have at least one active color eating tiles so your waiting slots never get completely stuck. Avoid pulling any standalone dark purple blocks right now because the top border is still blocked by the green sky.
Step 4: Clear the middle section of the hull to grab the yellow key.
Your next goal is the yellow key sitting right in the center of the boat. Look for the available brown blocks in your tray. Pull a brown block up to the waiting area. The brown ants will deploy and attack the center section of the hull. They will quickly munch their way through the brown tiles and grab the yellow key. Taking this key breaks the yellow lock in your tray. This action unlocks a fresh batch of green and brown blocks for you to use. At this point the boat is looking heavily damaged and broken apart. The left sail is mostly gone and the center hull is missing entirely. You are making good progress but you still have one key left to collect. Make sure you do not pull too many dark purple blocks yet. Focus entirely on finishing the boat and eating the green background first so your paths stay open.
Step 5: Finish the right side of the boat to secure the green key.
The final key is located on the right side of the boat hull. You need to send more brown ants to finish off that section. Pull the next available brown block from your newly unlocked tray section. The ants will march over to the right side and consume the remaining brown tiles. They will grab the green key along the way. Collecting this final key shatters the green lock at the very bottom of your tray. This is a very necessary move because that green lock was hiding a large green block that you need to finish the sky. With the hull completely gone the light tan ants will also finish off the last few pieces of the sail. The entire sailboat is now completely erased from the board. Only the top section of the green background and the top dark purple border remain visible.
Step 6: Deploy the unlocked green blocks to clear the wide sky section.
Now that the boat is out of the way you can focus entirely on the large chunk of green background at the top of the picture. Pull the large green block that you just unlocked from behind the green lock. You can also pull any other remaining green blocks from your tray to speed up the process. A huge swarm of green ants will pour out of the nest and flood the top of the board. They will quickly eat away the green tiles starting from the bottom edge and working their way up to the border. This part is fun to watch because the path is completely wide open. The ants do not have to navigate around any obstacles or sharp corners anymore. Just let them do their work and watch the green numbers in your tray drop to zero. Your waiting slots are completely safe here because the green blocks are draining constantly and making room for your next moves.
Step 7: Send the final dark purple ants to eat the top border.
The only thing left on the board is the top section of the dark purple border. It looks like an upside down letter U. Look at your tray and you will see that only dark purple blocks remain. Pull all of them up into your waiting slots at the same time. The dark purple ants will surge out of the nest and run up the sides of the board to reach the top border. They will eat the purple tiles from both ends until they meet in the middle. Since there are no other colors left on the board you do not have to worry about pathing or blocking anymore. The ants have a straight open shot to their food. Watch the final dark purple blocks drain until they are completely empty. The last purple tile will vanish from the screen and you will win the level.
Final Thought
Colony Flow is all about managing your tray space and planning your path ahead of time. This level is a perfect example of why you must target specific areas to unlock the rest of the board. I hope this guide helped you navigate the tricky locks and connected boxes without getting stuck. If you find any part of this written guide hard to follow I highly recommend watching the video above this article. Seeing the ants in motion can make the exact timing of the blocks much easier to understand.
