Welcome to Colony Flow Level 187. This puzzle features a massive pixel art dog wearing a large backpack completely stuffed with bright flowers. The main challenge here is carving through a huge solid background to reach the actual character trapped inside. I will show you how to beat this board without jamming your tray and losing the game.

What You Are Working With

The picture on this board shows a pixel art dog facing left. The dog has a white snout, yellow ears, and an orange and white body. It wears a gray and red backpack filled with pink flowers and green leaves. A thick black outline traces the entire drawing. The biggest obstacle is the background. A solid wall of light beige tiles completely surrounds the dog and the backpack. This background blocks almost every single color inside the drawing.

Down in your tray at the bottom of the screen, you start with a massive light beige block carrying the number 286. You also see blocks for dark red, orange, and red. The board gives you five waiting slots for your blocks. There are no hidden boxes, hidden food mechanics, or locked keys on this board. This level is a pure pathing challenge. You simply need to manage the order of your colors so your ants always have an open route to their matching tiles.

What It Takes to Clear Level 187 Board

You clear this level by chipping away from the outside edges and working your way inside. You must dismantle the massive light beige background entirely before you can make serious progress on the dog. Once the outside wall is gone, you pick off the exposed colors around the edges of the character. You will clear the bottom legs and the top flowers first. After that, you work into the center of the body. You win when you finally eat away the black outline and the last few details disappear from the board. You lose if you fill your five waiting slots with colors that cannot reach their tiles.

Colony Flow Level 187 Step by Step Solution

Step 1: Send the massive light beige block to clear the background grid.

Your very first move must be the enormous light beige block waiting in your tray. This block requires 286 ants to clear the background. When you tap it, a huge line of light beige ants pours out of the nest hole at the bottom of the screen. They hit the bottom edge of the drawing and split left and right. They will slowly creep up the sides of the board eating away the massive grid of beige tiles. You must wait patiently here. If you load up your five waiting slots right now with other colors like red or green, those blocks will just sit there. The other colors have no open paths yet. Filling your slots now will instantly cause you to lose the level. Let the light beige ants do their work until the outer edges of the dog are completely free.

Step 2: Clear the dark red and red lower sections of the body.

Once the light beige background is mostly gone, the bottom edges of the character open up. You can now reach the dark red shading on the dog legs and the bright red straps of the backpack. Tap the dark red block and the red block in your tray. The dark red ants will head to the bottom left and bottom right corners to eat the shadow tiles. The red ants will march up the legs to eat the backpack straps and the tail section. This is a critical moment for opening the board. By clearing the bottom barrier, you allow future ants to walk deeper into the puzzle. The tray will start offering you new colors like pink or orange. Keep those new blocks in the queue until the red sections are fully gone. You must maintain clear paths so your waiting slots do not back up.

Step 3: Send pink and green ants to eat the backpack flowers.

Now you look at the top right of the board where the backpack sits. The pack has a huge cluster of green leaves and pink flowers sticking out of the top. The beige background used to block these, but the path is now wide open. You will see pink blocks and green blocks appearing in your tray. Send the pink ants first to start chewing on the bright flowers. Then send the green ants. They will march all the way up the right side of the empty screen, bypassing the dog completely, and attack the leaves. You might see a yellow block pop into your tray during this process. Leave the yellow block alone for now. The yellow tiles are trapped deep inside the body. Tapping the yellow block now will only trap it in your waiting slots and block your flow.

Step 4: Clear the white face and paws to open the inner body.

The board is opening up beautifully at this stage. The top and bottom barriers are gone. The white tiles make up the large snout on the left side and the paws at the bottom. You will get several white blocks in your tray with different numbers. Send them all out. The white ants will head straight left from the nest hole and flood into the face. This removes a huge chunk of the head. By clearing the white snout, you open a side door directly into the yellow and orange tiles of the ear and neck. Always keep an eye on your remaining tiles. Make sure you only send the white blocks when you clearly see white tiles exposed on the outer edge of the remaining drawing.

Step 5: Remove the yellow and orange tiles from the torso and head.

The inner body is finally ready. The orange and yellow tiles are completely exposed to the open board. Send your orange blocks to clear the tail and the back legs. Send the yellow blocks to clear the ear and the top of the head. The ants will find incredibly easy paths since the surrounding white and red tiles are completely gone. You will also see some gray tiles remaining in the actual structure of the backpack. Send the gray blocks to finish off the pack. At this point the picture is mostly destroyed. The solid drawing breaks apart into scattered islands of color. You just have a skeleton of black outline tiles and a few random body colors left to deal with.

Step 6: Destroy the black outline to finish the level.

The final cleanup phase is all about the black outline. This dark border has been sitting on the board blocking your ants from the very beginning. Now it is time to destroy it. You will see several black blocks sitting in your tray. Tap them to send the black ants out. The black ants will run all around the empty board and eat the long string of outline tiles. The original shape of the dog will completely vanish. You might have one or two small white or dark red blocks left in the tray to clean up a stray pixel. Send those final blocks to wipe the board completely clean. The last few ants will finish their paths and you will win the level.

Final Thought

Patience is the only real trick to beating this board. That massive beige background tempts you to tap other colors while you wait, but doing so will instantly ruin your run. Just let the background clear, work from the outside edges, and the whole picture will fall apart easily. If you have trouble visualizing the order of colors I described, watch the gameplay video above this article to see exactly how the ants navigate the board. Keep your slots open and you will clear this puzzle on your next attempt.
