Welcome to Colony Flow Level 48. Today you get to clear a cute pixel art dog wearing a festive green and orange hat. The board is wide open but it comes packed with a lot of solid color chunks and a couple of special keys you need to grab to make progress. I play every single level myself and I will walk you through exactly how to clear every single tile without jamming your tray. If you have been struggling with dead ends on this board you are in the right place.
Colony Flow Level 48 Overview
What You Are Working With
The pixel art displays a white dog face centered on a very large brown background. The dog has black outlines defining its ears and face along with an orange bowtie and a brown mouth. On top of the dog sits a large hat featuring a bright green stripe across the middle, some orange stars, and fluffy white trim. You will also spot a yellow key sitting on the left cheek and a blue key sitting on the right cheek. These are Lock and Key special tiles. Down in your tray you will see several blocks linked together by lines which means they are Connected Boxes. You must clear the top block in a connected sequence before the game lets you pull the block tied underneath it. You will also see locked blocks sitting in the tray that require those specific cheek keys to open. You cannot use those blocks until the keys are collected by your ants.
What It Takes to Clear Level 48 Board
Clearing this board requires a strict bottom to top approach. You have to start with the lower white and black tiles to create open paths upward into the center of the design. Your main goal in the early phase is reaching the yellow and blue keys as fast as possible. Once you grab those keys the locked blocks in your tray finally become available for use. From there you will manage the massive brown background blocks while slowly picking off the colorful hat details one by one. You win the game when you eat the very last top tiles and keep your five waiting slots flowing perfectly without a single jam.
Colony Flow Level 48 Step by Step Solution
Step 1: Send ants to the bottom white tiles to start the level
Start the level by pulling two White 30 blocks from the top row of your tray. The ants will stream out of the nest hole at the bottom of the screen and head straight for the bottom paws and the lower chin of the dog. These white tiles block everything else above them so clearing them is your mandatory first move. Your waiting slots will have two white blocks counting down simultaneously. This is perfectly safe because the white path is currently wide open and the ants can eat multiple tiles at once. Keep watching the numbers on those blocks drop. You want to make sure a path stays clear so the colony can keep moving without stopping.
Step 2: Open the black outlines around the collar and lower face
Once the white blocks make a solid dent in the chin area you can safely pull the Black 30 block from the tray. The ants will march up from the nest and start chewing away the black border outlining the bottom of the face and the collar section. The black path is quite thin compared to the white sections so the ants will eat it slightly slower. You need to watch your waiting slots very closely here. Do not pull another block into the tray until one of your white blocks completely empties and disappears. Filling too many slots right now will cause a fatal jam because the black path simply cannot handle a massive rush of ants all at once.
Step 3: Collect the blue and yellow keys on the cheeks
With the bottom outlines totally gone your ants now have clear access to the cheeks of the dog. Pull another White 30 block to send a fresh wave of ants up the left and right sides of the face. As they clear the white cheek tiles they will automatically collect the yellow key on the left side and the blue key on the right side. Grabbing these keys removes the heavy locks from the black and brown blocks sitting dormant in your tray. This move is incredibly crucial because those locked blocks are physically blocking your Connected Boxes from moving forward. You cannot access the heavy brown background colors until these keys are safely collected.
Step 4: Attack the lower brown background corners
Now that your tray is completely unlocked you can start working on the massive background area. Pull a Brown 35 block and send the colony to the bottom left and bottom right corners of the board. The brown background is very thick and blocky so the ants will spread out and eat very quickly. Keep a close eye on the numbers ticking down in your waiting slots. You want to make sure the brown path stays highly active while your black blocks finish up the remaining lower face outlines. This is a great time to let the ants clear out the large lower chunks while you prepare your next moves.
Step 5: Clear the orange bowtie and the brown mouth details
With the bottom corners clearing out you can now target the inner details of the face. Pull an Orange 26 block into a waiting slot and let the ants clear the bowtie located just under the chin. At the exact same time you can pull a smaller Brown block to clear the mouth details in the center of the face. These smaller color patches clear out extremely fast because they are close to the nest and easy to reach. This rapid clearing frees up space in your waiting slots for the next major wave of background colors. Always wait for a slot to empty before you pull the next heavy background block.
Step 6: Work up the outer edges of the brown background
Your tray will now offer a massive Brown 40 block. Pull this block into an empty slot. The ants will climb up through the empty bottom corners and start eating the vertical sides of the brown background. This action creates a clear travel tunnel up to the hat area at the top of the design. The Brown 40 block takes a very long time to count down so you must leave it alone in its slot while it works. Do not overcrowd your tray with other hat colors yet. Just let the ants chew their way up the left and right sides of the board until the brown number drops significantly.
Step 7: Start clearing the green hat stripe across the middle
Once the background is partially cleared on the sides you can finally reach the hat sitting on the dog head. Pull a Green 15 block from your tray into a waiting slot. The colony will crawl all the way up the newly opened side paths and begin eating the bright green stripe running across the middle of the hat. Since the green block only holds 15 ants it will empty fairly quickly compared to the background blocks. This is a highly effective move to keep your slots cycling fast and prevent any chance of hitting a dead end.
Step 8: Eat the orange hat stars on the top left and right
Now it is time to clear the decorative stars on the hat. Pull the remaining Orange blocks from the tray to target the stars on the far left and right sides of the hat. The ants will use the paths you opened along the sides to reach the very top corners. The orange tiles are small and isolated from each other so the ants might take a little extra time to travel between them. Make absolutely sure you have at least two empty slots in your tray before you send the ants on this long journey. You never want a slow moving color to clog up your tray when you are this close to the end.
Step 9: Finish the top brown background section
Your tray will now show the final heavy blocks for the level including a Brown 33 and a Black 28. Pull the Brown 33 first to clear the massive solid roof of the board. The ants will swarm the top brown tiles and clear the entire upper background in one giant wave. Watch the brown counter carefully. Wait for the brown number to drop below 10 before you pull the final black block. Staggering these last heavy blocks ensures that the ants never run out of room to maneuver near the top edge of the board.
Step 10: Clear the top hat trim and win the level
The only tiles remaining on the board are the black hat outlines and the top fluffy white trim. Pull the Black 28 to finish all the remaining borders around the hat. Then pull your final White blocks including a White 26 to clear the white balls sitting on the top and sides of the hat. The ants will sweep across the very top row in a satisfying final push. Once the final white tile vanishes from the screen the board is fully clear and you win the level. Your waiting slots will stay perfectly safe right up to the very last second.
Final Thought
Level 48 really tests your patience with those large background blocks and the hidden locked tray items. If you focus on getting the two cheek keys early and carefully managing your five slots you will get through it incredibly smoothly. Please watch the video above this article if any step feels hard to follow in text. Seeing the ants move in real time can help you nail the exact timing for pulling those heavy brown blocks.
